The ATP tour also visits South America during this period. The Chilean capital Santiago also hosts one ATP 250 tournament. However, the quality of the courts here has been the subject of criticism. And at the least opportune moment. Why?

ATP Santiago

Although the opening part of the season belongs to tournaments on hard surfaces, one part of the tour heads to South American soil after the Australian Open.

Four tournaments are being held there in succession on the traditional clay surface. These are hosted by Argentina, Brazil and Chile. It is in the Chilean capital of Santiago that the final of the events in this leg of the season takes place.

Santiago hosts an ATP 250 tournament and features the world’s top players. The number one player here is the local Nicolas Jarry, the number 22 player in the rankings, and the number two is the Argentine Baez, who dominated the event in Brazil last week.

But the conditions in Santiago are deplorable. And you can see for yourself in the video below.

Bad timing

Similar problems never come in handy. But in this case, the aforementioned problems are more annoying. In fact, South American tournaments are coming into focus in a much more positive way.

Among the tennis events here, there is no tournament from the prestigious Masters category and the idea of promoting one of the local tournaments to this category has gained a powerful supporter.

The legendary British tennis player Andy Murray has expressed his support for this vision. He particularly highlights the amazing interest of the public and the great atmosphere in the countries of the area.

But the organisation and facilities of the tournaments play a key role in judging the individual tournaments. And the venture in Santiago hasn’t really supported the ambitions of South American tennis tournaments right now.
