Javier Hernández used to play for Manchester United and Real Madrid. At 34 years old, he is the captain of the Los Angeles Galaxy and showed on Sunday night that he still has shooting ability. However, he threw away the chance to complete his hat-trick.
The Mexican striker is the captain of LA Galaxy, he is supposed to be the main attacking weapon, and he delivers. However, the club is not doing so well this season. After 28 games, he has 39 points and his record of 11 wins and 11 losses is not impressive.
On Sunday night, however, the Galaxy welcomed Kansas City to their home ground. They were the favourites, but the match ended in a 2-2 draw. And it was Javier Hernández who was the star of the game.
He opened the scoring in the fourth minute, but Kansas turned it around to 2-1 and in the 88th minute Chicharito equalised to make it 2-2.
The Mexican had a unique chance to not only complete his hat-trick, but also to secure three points for his team. In the 97th minute, the Californian team had the chance to score from a penalty kick and Hernández decided to take a risk.
Instead of a simple tackle, he attempted the legendary Panenka long kick. And he absolutely failed. The goalkeeper read it and had no problem dealing with the penalty.
Chicharito has now scored 14 goals. At the current stage of the MLS season, he is the tenth top scorer in the competition.
