Bruins captain Marchand struck a shorthanded goal early in the game
Czech forward Jakub Lauko was ejected for holding in the 17th second of the game. Just 15 seconds later, Boston captain Brad Marchand scored his 25th goal of the season. It is the third fastest shorthanded goal in NHL history.
Only two players have done it faster in the NHL. Dirk Graham did it on October 18, 1986 in the 30th second of a game and Wayne Gretzky did the same on December 10 of that year. The Bruins captain, who is about to play his 1,000th regular season game in two games, got Boston off to a great start.
Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko kept a clean sheet for only 31 seconds. To make matters worse, Boston scored again shorthanded in the same period this time after Czech forward David Pastrňák was sent off. Danton Heinen made it 2:0. Charlie Coyle had an assist on both goals.

After 21 minutes of play, the game was decided. The score did not change for the rest of the game. Linus Ullmark caught all 17 of the opponent’s shots. Pavel Zacha had a goal and an assist and is the 5th best Czech player this season with 33 points. Czech players played a big role in today’s game. In addition, Brad Marchand needs one more 25-goal season to tie the Bruins’ club record of John Bucyk, who did it in 11 seasons. Marchand has already done it in 10 seasons after tonight’s game.
