VIDEO: This could have ended in a big trouble! Lance Stroll almost takes down Fernando Alonso in the race
The queen of motorsport has completed the opening race of the new season, namely the Bahrain Grand Prix. And it has indeed offered a lot, from answering all sorts of questions in terms of team performance, to beautiful battles on the track itself, to dramatic moments after the start. And one of those took place between Aston Martin teammates Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll.
Formula 1 kicked off the new season at 4pm on Sunday, and the opening lap was really worth it. Apart from a few overtaking manoeuvres, Aston Martin fans in particular had to stop their hearts for a few moments.
That’s because Lance Stroll failed to brake in turn four of the first lap and eventually contact was made between him and Fernando Alonso.
Fortunately for Aston Martin, however, there was not only no serious crash, but also no serious damage to either car. In any case, you can watch the whole moment in the attached video below.
Nevertheless, Aston Martin had a great weekend at the Sakhir circuit, proving its form from pre-season testing and roughly the first half of the race weekend.
Both Alonso and Stroll were the second fastest car in terms of race pace, with not even the Ferrari matching the performance of the Northamptonshire team’s monoposts.
It’s fair to say the 41-year-old Spaniard finished third in the Bahrain Grand Prix to record his 99th career podium finish.
Canadian Stroll also put in an impressive performance, especially as he was unsure of his start due to injuries to both wrists and his leg. However, in the end he dealt with it well and concluded the Bahrain Grand Prix in sixth place.
So how do the standings look after the opening round of the season in both championships? Max Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship with 25 points, while Red Bull also leads the Constructors’ Cup.
