The fairy tale story of Christian Eriksen continues. After collapsing in a European Championship match against Finland last summer, the Danish footballer is now experiencing the most emotional moments of his career so far.
Christian Eriksen is one of the most talked about figures in football today. He collapsed from cardiac arrest right on the pitch at last year’s Euros and few could have imagined that he would ever return to football again.
Not only did the Danish football star make his first competitive appearance in the Premier League in less than a year, defending the colours of his new employer Brentford, but now another dream has come true.
In yesterday’s friendly between Denmark and the Netherlands, he was given the opportunity to represent his native country again in the second half. And it was a truly fabulous return.
Eriksen had a tough task when he stepped onto the pitch of the Amsterdam Arena, where he had previously played for Ajax Amsterdam. After the first half, the Danes were trailing the Dutch 1:3. However, the Danish international’s first touch with the ball sparked a glimmer of hope for an equaliser.
After only two minutes on the pitch, he took advantage of a back pass from winger Olsen and with a beautiful finish into the top corner of the opponent’s goal reduced the score to 2::3.
The amazing scenario was underscored by the fact that he had made this dream comeback in his former place of work, where he had spent three years. The whole stadium applauded loudly when he took the field.
During the second half, the Danish international could have underlined his great performance with a second goal, but he only hit the bar of the Dutch goal.
Although there were doubts before the match whether Eriksen would be able to join the national team after contracting Covid. However, he recovered from the illness in time and made an amazing comeback to the national team. His dream of playing in the World Cup in Qatar is still alive.
