VIDEO: That was a close one! Dúbravka made several misses in the League Cup and it’s a wonder he kept a clean sheet
Being a Manchester United fan is often challenging. This was also the case in the League Cup, where the Red Devils beat Burnley 2-0, but it was by no means a quiet match. A big part of the credit goes to Slovak goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka.
Being a Manchester United fan is often challenging. This was also the case in the League Cup, where the Red Devils beat Burnley 2-0, but it was by no means a quiet match. A big part of the credit goes to Slovak goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka.
Manchester United advanced ahead of Burnley in the League Cup after a 2-0 win, with Martin Dúbravka in goal for the second time, but he didn’t have his day.
On three occasions, he made an unflattering display to United fans, who must have steady nerves when watching their team on a regular basis. The first time he nearly scored an own goal.
After a direct kick he ran towards the ball but failed to clear it, then the ball came to him again and Dúbravka headed it towards his own goal.
Casemiro intervened, but that was not all. Then the same midfielder sent a small ball home and Dúbravka missed the ball with his kick, but thanks to a little bit of punch he still caught it in front of the goal line.
For both moments, he received a lot of ridicule on social media, because United fans basically don’t know him, after all, he has been backing David de Gea, who has been in quite good form all autumn.
Dúbravka also showed himself at the end of the match, when he hesitated with the cross until the attacking player managed to take the ball away from him. But it didn’t result in a goal.
The experienced Slovak goalkeeper will definitely not remember this match in a good way and it is a question when he will get another opportunity. The coach certainly won’t be getting around to it any time soon.
