VIDEO: Terrifying knockout! Chandler shut down a UFC legend and scored arguably the KO of the year. This is how he shut down Ferguson
It should and could have been a great comeback. Tony Ferguson wanted to get back on a winning streak and prove he hadn’t said the last word. However, he was up against Michael Chandler, a really tough hurdle to overcome, and unfortunately for Ferguson, that was confirmed in the match.
It should and could have been a great comeback. Tony Ferguson wanted to get back on a winning streak and prove he hadn’t said the last word. However, he was up against Michael Chandler, a really tough hurdle to overcome, and unfortunately for Ferguson, that was confirmed in the match.
A battle between two men who wanted to get back on the winning track. Tony Ferguson had three straight defeats, Michael Chandler two. Both fighters lost to fighters who fought in the main event of the same tournament, Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira.
Chandler was not written off by any means, after all he put on a quality performance despite the losses and the UFC is counting on him for the future. However, there was a lot of doubt about Ferguson. According to some, he has simply missed the train.
Against Chandler, however, Ferguson wanted to prove that wasn’t the case. Plus, it was a personal matter for him. While a 12-fight win streak wasn’t enough for him, Chandler had worked his way to a title fight with a single win in the UFC.
The UFC legend, as Ferguson can be described, didn’t want to leave anything to chance. And that’s exactly what his entrance into the fight looked like, with the entire arena chanting his name.
Ferguson landed a fairly quick knockdown on Chandler, was accurate in his stance, landed a good shot. Chandler had to take the fight to the ground midway through the first round, where he dominated, but Ferguson was very active in defending.
It was a question of how long it would be before Chandler tried to take the fight to the ground in the second round. In the end, though, it didn’t have to come to that. Ferguson did land a nice front kick that left him unconscious. Scary moment.
No one has ever seen Ferguson in that situation. As well as being horrific, his loss was very emotional. No MMA fan wants to see a legend of his stature end like that.
