Chelsea made it through the fourth round of the Premier League, beating Leicester at home, despite playing more than an hour shorthanded. It was decided by Raheem Sterling’s two goals, Harvey Barnes only reduced.
Chelsea started actively and in the 6th minute Ruben Loftus-Cheek had a sure chance after Sterling’s pass, but Danny Ward saved it. Six minutes later Kai Havertz was fouled in the whitewash, but the head referee called the penalty for offside after consulting the video.
In the 29th minute there was a complication for the home side. Conor Gallagher stamped on Harvey Barnes’ foot in the middle of the pitch and received his second yellow card of the game. And Leicester against ten began to bite.
They even went ahead in the 34th minute, but their goal was disallowed again by the referee for a foul on Edouard Mendy. Chelsea certainly didn’t depend on the ten and threatened more from breakaway situations. In the 43rd minute, Reece James hit the crossbar.
The fans watched some very interesting football, with some really up and down play. In the last minute of stoppage time, Mendy flashed against Timothy Castagne’s point-blank chance.
Just after the change of sides, Sterling opened the scoring with a point-blank shot from the edge of the box, and in the 51st minute the English winger hit the bar.
Ten minutes later he could have celebrated for the second time when James found him in front of an empty net.
In the 66th minute, however, Barnes collided with Jamie Vardy and fired Mendy over at the near post. Vardy then went at Mendy twice, on the first occasion the Cameroonian saved, on the second the English striker over-hit the ball.
Leicester did not take advantage of the pressure from the end and Chelsea won 2-1 at home. It is a very important three points in the English top flight table.
