West Ham failed to win Saturday’s match of the 15th round of the Premier League, losing 0:2 at home to Leicester. James Maddison and Harvey Barnes scored, Tomas Soucek’s goal was disallowed for offside.
Leicester took the lead from the first big chance. A great team effort was headed into the empty net by James Maddison.
The Foxes were playing at a good pace, while West Ham were struggling with their movement, plus Kurt Zouma was injured. Then Gareth Southgate froze twice. First Declan Rice had to be treated, then Maddison even came on as a substitute due to injury.
The home side did not respond until the 27th minute when Said Benrahma was saved by Danny Ward. The Hammers kicked the first chance, two minutes later a shot by weak offensive midfielder Lucas Paqueta. In the 35th minute, Tomas Soucek broke through from the edge of the area, but his goal was disallowed for offside by Jarrod Bowen.
On the other side, Craig Dawson fouled in the penalty area and the visitors were awarded a penalty. Youri Tielemans took the ball, but Lukasz Fabianski headed his attempt towards the left post.
The Hammers started the second half actively as well, with winger Jarrod Bowen’s goalbound shot blocked by the home defence. In the 58th minute, after a corner kick, Rice headed but the England international did not head between the three posts.
Substitute Jamie Vardy could have buried West Ham’s hopes but Fabianski dealt with his shot. In the 77th minute, the visitors celebrated. Harvey Barnes ran onto Ayoze Perez’s pass and blasted home the keeper.
The visitors held off the final pressure and jumped up to 12th place with a 2-0 win. The Hammers, on the other hand, dropped to 16th place.
