VIDEO: Soucek sent West Ham into the lead against Chelsea, but VAR called off the goal. The goal was ruled out by the referee at the end of the match
West Ham hosted a pumped up Chelsea on Saturday lunchtime, still searching for lost form. The game did not go well for the home side, but an equaliser came by the end of the first half and it even looked like a win for a while at the end. However, Tomas Soucek’s goal was called back.
West Ham hosted a pumped up Chelsea on Saturday lunchtime, still searching for lost form. The game did not go well for the home side, but an equaliser came by the end of the first half and it even looked like a win for a while at the end. However, Tomas Soucek’s goal was called back.
In the 23rd round, Chelsea visited London Stadium, where West Ham play their home games. Both teams are not in ideal form, so there was room to kick on.
Chelsea took the lead fairly early on, Joao Félix getting the ball into the net in the 16th minute shortly after getting offside earlier.
The home side managed to respond when Emerson equalised after less than half an hour of play. Chelsea still kept the ball on their feet and it was clear that they needed three points after many losses.
But in the 82nd minute it was West Ham who managed to get the ball into the net. Declan Rice’s header was cleared by Kepa, but Tomas Soucek’s finish was short.
The home side were jubilant and believed they would take all three points, but then came the video and the subsequent sadness. Due to an offside, the goal was cancelled.
After this situation, neither player got the ball in the net, although Chelsea could have been quite angry. Shortly before the end of regulation time, it was Soucek who played his hand in the penalty area.
However, even given the shots, there was no penalty kick and both teams had to settle for just a point. For Chelsea, it is the third draw in a row, and they are quite far away from the cup standings.
