Formula 1 is currently holding its eighteenth race of the season, the Japanese Grand Prix. The first free practice sessions started on Friday, with very difficult conditions due to rain and a wet track. And it was the unpredictable conditions that took the brunt of the crash for Mick Schumacher, who ended up in the wall in the first free practice.
The first free practice session for the Japanese Formula One Grand Prix got underway in the early hours of Friday 7 October.
It should be noted, the drivers had a very difficult time due to the rain and wet track conditions and we watched many drivers struggling with their cars on the track.
However, it was Germany’s Schumacher who suffered the most from the poor conditions, crashing at the very end of the first practice session. You can see his crash for yourself in the video below.
The incident happened on the exit of Turn 7 when Schumacher encountered significant aquaplaning, skidded and ended up in the wall. Objectively, it can be noted that in this case, the son of the famous legend was also very unlucky indeed.
On the other hand, it certainly doesn’t look good for the young driver at a time when he is fighting not only for a seat in Haas, but to stay in Formula 1 in general.
Mick has already had two major accidents this year, both of which cost the American stable over one million dollars. And that was when Schumacher literally shot up a car in Saudi Arabia and then cut his car in half in Monaco.
While this crash in the first free practice doesn’t appear to be that serious in terms of component replacement, it still won’t come cheap for Haas. Furthermore, the American team could only field Kevin Magnussen for the second practice session, so the team lost some valuable data during the 90-minute practice despite the adverse conditions.
According to the available information, Haas had to replace the entire front of the car. Very likely including the chassis. Schumacher’s car will be ready to race for Saturday’s free practice.
