Patrik Schick spent the season with the club’s doctors but is showing extravagance again after his return
For more than a year, he spent time with club doctors instead of staying on green chins. But now he’s rocking again and has twice broken into the match stats in two games. This time in the top German competition.
Patrik Schick has been struggling with a protracted injury since March. When he returned to the pitch, he played only thirty minutes and injured his calf. So he had to wait another month before getting a chance to jump on the bandwagon.
Leverkusen are having a dream season. After twelve rounds in the domestic competition, they dominated the table with 11 wins and one draw. In the Europa League, they have secured early qualification for the spring knockout phase.
It was in the European Cup that the Czech international was given a chance by coach Xabi Alonso and he has rewarded him handsomely. After only eleven minutes on the pitch, he scored a goal and contributed to the victory at the ground of Swedish Häcken.
In the league match against Dortmund, he sent in the first touch with a goal assist
Then, in Saturday’s league match, Leverkusen welcomed fifth-placed Borussia Dortmund to their home ground in the round robin and for a long time it looked like the Spanish manager’s charges would taste their first defeat of the season. Already in the fifth minute Julian Ryerson silenced the home fans.
Although Leverkusen pressed the opponent’s goal throughout the match, they could not equalize the unfavorable situation. Xabi Alonso decided to strengthen his team’s offensive efforts in the 79th minute by sending Patrik Schick to the pitch. And he showed his extravagance once again.
After a few seconds of being on the pitch, he sent a beautiful pass in front of the open goal with practically the first contact with the ball and the Nigerian Victor Boniface had no problem sending the ball into the net.
With the game status unchanged, Leverkusen once again got at least a valuable point and Schick’s assist was worth its weight in gold. His team is still leading the Bundeliga with a three-point lead over second-placed Bayern. However, the latter has a game in hand after yesterday’s postponed match.
