Video: Schick finishes the season with an assist to become the Bundesliga’s second top scorer

Patrik Schick had the season of his life. He pushed Bayer Leverkusen into the Champions League, set his own goalscoring record and became the Bundesliga’s second top scorer in 2021/22.
The hint that this season could be special came as early as last summer. Patrik Schick became joint top scorer of the Euros with Cristiano Ronaldo with five goals, and in the summer there was talk of whether he would move to a bigger club or stay at Bayer.
But he continued to defend the red and black colours and it was a good choice. Schick became a key player for Leverkusen and started scoring goals like on a treadmill. His tally stood at 24 goals in 27 games and he added 3 assists.
He became the second top scorer in the Bundesliga, better than the unbeatable Robert Lewandowski, who scored 35 goals.
In the last round against Freiburg, Leverkusen were just finishing the season, and could not move up or down from third place. Despite this, Bayer were able to beat Freiburg 2-1, with Schick again contributing to the result.
This time not with a goal, but with an assist. Schick got a long ball between two defenders, which he handled with a bit of luck and ran alone at the goalkeeper. But there he showed his unselfishness and still presented the ball to his attacking partner Lucas Alario, who delivered the ball into the empty net.
Schick is expected to stay at Leverkusen next season, but if a team comes in with a tempting offer, it is uncertain how Bayer will behave.
