In addition to the royal Moto GP class, or the accompanying Moto2 class, there was also a Moto3 race at the Austin circuit on Sunday. And it was stopped twice! The first time for Filip Salac’s accident, and the second time for a horrific mass collision.
Fortunately, everyone involved is safe. As mentioned above, the race in Austin was stopped twice by red flags.
The first time was because of the Czech racer, Filip Salač. The Prustel GP team driver failed to negotiate the exit of turn 11 and crashed very badly.
In the crash, Salač’s glove even flew off, which can also be seen in the video. Unfortunately, the Czech driver was unable to leave the track on his own and was carried away on a stretcher.
He was subsequently transported by helicopter to a hospital in Austin, where, according to the latest information, he underwent chest and abdominal X-rays.
In any case, the Mladá Boleslav native said via his Twitter account that he will be fine soon, and also thanked his fans for all the news and full support.
After half an hour, when the race was stopped after Salachev’s severe accident, the US Grand Prix was restarted. Five more laps were to be run, but on the third circuit we witnessed an absolutely terrible moment.
The championship leader, Pedro Acosta, flew several metres through the air after contact with two other drivers!
Call it what you will, whether it was luck or a protective hand, all the drivers were able to walk off the track on their own after this mass crash. Red flags were waved on the circuit and the race was stopped for the second time.
And finally, it was over. The race directors would not allow any more after these dramas. The final results will be based on the order before the first red flag.
So the race was won by Izan Guevara, for whom this was his first Moto3 victory! Dennis Foggia finished second, with John McPhee third, both on Honda motorcycles.
