The fifth round of the Bundesliga offered Bayer Leverkusen a duel with Freiburg. While the home team is not doing well at all, the visitors have won three out of four games. And this trend has continued.
Kerem Demirbay sent Leverkusen into the lead in the first half, but Matthias Ginter and Michael Gregoritsch turned the score of an attractive match around.
After that, it was Czech striker Patrik Schick, who scored his last league goal in early May against Hoffenheim. This time, he made his mark in the 65th minute when he pounced on Callum Hudson-Odoi’s excellent centre with a header.
Schick was able to level the match and give his team hope of victory. However, it would not be Leverkusen that would lose their lead early. In fact, Ritsu Doan sent Freiburg into the lead in the 72nd minute.
This left Leverkusen fans with a less than enviable feeling. Their team was better, but the defensive phase is not their favourite club’s strong point. The match ended 2: 3.
Bayer thus gained only three points from five league matches, which puts them in thirteenth position in the table. Due to the results of the last few matches, the position of coach Gerard Seoane is significantly threatened, who did not send Adam Hložek to the match this time either.
On the other hand, Freiburg are ahead of Dortmund and ruling the Bundesliga thanks to a better scoreline. This is also thanks to Bayern Munich, who only drew with Union Berlin, with whom they remain one point behind the aforementioned duo.
