Just three more rounds and the playoffs are here. The NFL regular season is winding down, teams are fighting for spots. But that’s no longer the case for the Baltimore Ravens, who clinched the playoffs Monday morning.
The Maryland team is the best team in the NFL after 14 rounds, along with San Francisco. While the Ravens reign the AFC, the 49ers rule the NFC with an identical 11-3 record.
Baltimore did make the playoffs last season, but finished just outside the eighth round, where they fell to Cincinnati. Now, he’s definitely aiming higher. They are currently on a four-game winning streak, most recently beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 23-7.
Kicker Justin Tucker, who is considered to be one of the best NFL players of all time at his position, shone in the game. He scored three field goals against the Jaguars and added two extra points.
But the Ravens weren’t too pleased with the win. There was a scary moment in the game. 21-year-old running back Keaton Mitchell was seriously injured.
The NFL rookie suffered a horrific injury
Keaton Mitchell is only 21 years old. This is his first season in the NFL. It’s definitely worth noting that he wasn’t drafted. He earned his position hard. He only started starting during the season. The game against the Jaguars was only his eighth of the season.
He managed to score two touchdowns, averaging 49.5 yards per game. But he’s not going to improve his numbers this season. And hopefully, he’ll only be out for the rest of this season, not longer.
So what happened? Mitchell ran the ball forward and Andrew Wingard tried to stop him. It was successful, unfortunately at a terrible cost. The talented youngster stumbled, stepped horribly and seriously injured his knee, which buckled badly.
Ravens players immediately got down on one knee. They were aware of the severity of the injury. “It was heartbreaking,” admits head coach John Harbaugh, according to Baltimore’ s official website.
“He’s just starting his career, which makes this all the harder to see. My thoughts and prayers are with him,” Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson expressed for a change.
