The WRC has its second event of the season this weekend after the Monte-Carlo Rally, namely in snowy Sweden. And as it happens, the fans here are witnessing some very dangerous crashes in many cases. One of them was suffered by Japanese Toyota driver Takamoto Katsuta, who spun his car several times.

Katsuta had a pretty solid pace in Sweden, which he showed during the fifth stage. But it ended in disaster for him.

The Japanese driver failed to negotiate one of the left-hand corners, crashed his Toyota into a snow bank and overturned. And then he spun around several times.

Although Katsuta was able to continue, he lost almost one minute because of this crash. And what did the front of his car look like? You can see for yourself in the video below.

Katsuta won the fourth stage and was in fifth place in the overall standings before Friday’s race. The twenty-nine-year-old then went on to stage six, but Friday ended early for him.

And that was when his Toyota’s radiator was damaged during this stage. Katsuta then rushed for water and tried to repair the radiator, but his efforts came to nothing.

The fifth and sixth stages were eventually won by Hyundai driver Craig Breen and after these stages he moved to the front of the Swedish rally.

Current events

However, the remaining two stages on Friday were dominated by Ott Tänak and Kalle Rovanperä. On Saturday, Belgium’s Thierry Neuville reigned supreme in Sweden, taking four stage wins. Finland’s reigning champion Rovanperä had two first place finishes on Saturday, with Breen adding one more.

Sunday then kicked off with stage 16, which was dominated by Rovanperä, but it is Estonian Tänak who leads the overall standings with an eleven-second lead over second-placed Breen.

Neuville is almost 25 seconds behind in third, with Rovanperä 26 seconds behind in fourth. Katsuta is currently in 37th place, more than half an hour behind leader Tänak.
