Video: Messi’s bizarre goal. The opponent stopped playing, the Argentine did not and scored a goal against the undefending Estonians
Lionel Messi has scored countless spectacular goals in his career. The one against Estonia, however, will go down as rather bizarre. In a five-goal performance, one had a very bitter taste for the Estonians.
Lionel Messi has scored countless spectacular goals in his career. The one against Estonia, however, is more in the category of bizarre. In a five-goal performance, one had a very bitter taste for the Estonians.
Argentina faced Estonia in a friendly, the duel played in Pamplona, Spain at the El Sadar stadium had a clear favourite. This was confirmed in the 9th minute when Lionel Messi scored from a penalty.
The Argentine captain scored a second time in the 45th minute and completed his hat-trick at the start of the second half. But then came a very curious moment.
After a duel in the middle of the pitch, both Argentine and Estonian players were left lying on the ground and the whistle was blown.
Almost all the players, including the Estonian defenders, stopped playing, but not Messi, to whom the ball bounced on the edge of the penalty area. The Estonian footballer would have been on the ball sooner but stopped his movement after the whistle.
So Messi looked back at the referee, ran into the penalty area, hacked the keeper and cleared into the empty net.
The PSG striker added a fifth goal in the 76th minute, single-handedly securing a 5-0 win over Estonia.
