If Lionel Messi was incomprehensibly left out of the Ballon d’Or nomination this year, then surely it can’t happen again next year. Apart from the great performances given by the star Argentine last season, he has the numbers now and no one can doubt him.
He scores goals, he passes them, he is the driving force of PSG and he has a great influence on the whole game of the French outfit. And he has done that in all competitions. Including the Champions League, where he shone on Tuesday night against Maccabi Haifa.
He scored his first goal with ease in the 19th minute, shooting a beautiful shot from an angle at the opposition goalkeeper. Only he can send the ball into the net with such elegance.
The second PSG goal was unassisted by Kylian Mbappé, but Messi was not missing for the third goal. After a beautiful combination, he presented the ball to Neymar, who had no problem scoring.
Messi then scored his second goal in the 45th minute after a pass from Kylian Mbappé. From the edge of the hexagon, he sent the ball to the left post and gave the goalkeeper no chance.
