Dries Mertens has always had tremendous quality. And he hasn’t lost it even after leaving Naples for Galatasaray. Against Zalgiris, he fired the process with this volley.

Galatasaray were huge favourites in the Champions League preliminaries. Neither did Ana, the Turkish champion’s squad is a fearsome one.

In the 31st minute, Akturkoglu played a corner just outside the box, Mertens ran onto it and sent it into the net with a fantastic volley. It was the goal of the year.

Galatasaray have already taken the lead for the fifth time and are through to the third round. They will face Olimpija Ljubljana from Slovakia.
