VIDEO: Masvidal would be proud! The UFC heavyweight star hit his knee after the start of the fight and soon it was over

Originally he wasn’t even supposed to fight on the main card, but it ended up happening. And Derrick Lewis had a great time. He finished his fight quickly, scoring a finish in style. To break a losing streak like that? A unique feat.

Not so long ago, we would have looked for him among the absolute top heavyweights, but on Saturday night Derrick Lewis came in at number 11 in his weight division. He was on a nasty three-fight losing streak, having lost four of his last five fights overall.

His age has almost made him a force to be reckoned with, but at 38 years old he has shown that he is definitely not an old hand. At least his equally old opponent, Marcos Rogério de Lima, saw that.

Lewis has always been one of the most feared punchers, against the Brazilian fighter he went into the duel with a record of 13 knockouts from 17 wins. And against De Lima, he scored knockout number 14.

Not just any knockout. Jorge Masvidal, who was not absent from the tournament, would have been proud of Lewis. After all, his BMF title was on the line in the main event.

And what did the American heavyweight actually do? Following Masvidal’s lead, he immediately landed a jumping knee to start the fight. Unfortunately, not in a way that was immediately over. Still, it was close to the finish.

Lewis started hitting his shaken opponent on the ground with hard punches and the referee had to stop the fight. It was over. It took the American puncher only 33 seconds to win. Clean work.

No wonder he was so happy. He was under a lot of pressure, but the fans were behind him from the start. He’s a legend with a great character, and that’s why the fans love him.
