Arsenal could have taken a five-point lead in the Premier League after Manchester City’s stumble, but Wolves got in the way. They put in a very good performance at home, but Arsenal were more fortunate in the end and won thanks to captain Ødegaard.

Arsenal immediately pounced on their opponents from the start. In the sixth minute, Gabriel Jesus came through and found himself alone in front of the goalkeeper, but the goal was disallowed for offside. On the other side, the home side raced down the flank, but in a great chance, Guedes was also whistled offside.

After a quarter of an hour, the first substitution came when Granit Xhaka had to leave the pitch due to injury. A big loss not only for Arsenal but also for Switzerland ahead of the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. Hopefully it is nothing serious and the Swiss captain will hit the ground running in the championship.

Wolves have chosen a clear tactic, to defend carefully and if possible to counter-attack. They showed this in the 20th minute when a great chance was burnt by Guedes who shot over the Arsenal goal.

Ten minutes before the end of the first half, the cannoneers showed up again. Bukayo Saka brilliantly crossed the half of the pitch and sent in a great chance for Jesus, who stuck in the whitewash and shot very well. The goalkeeper was outmuscled but Jesus only hit the top bar.

Before the end of the first half, Saliba made a huge blunder, sending the other team on a breakaway. Guedes, who had a chance for the umpteenth time, again missed, this time heading wide of the far post. The first half ended goalless.

After the start of the second half, Partey earned a yellow card for trying to stop the opposition’s counter-attack. However, he only stopped the opposing player in an unpleasant manner. The advancing action was stopped by the defence.

In the 55th minute, Martinelli made a beautiful solo run down the middle, then to the right to take the play to the left, where Zinchenko crossed to Jesus, who sent Vieira into the box, who sent the ball well past the goalkeeper, where Ødegaard was already there, who scored into an empty net to put Arsenal in front.

After a moment, it could have been level when Wolves again went on the counter-attack. However, a dangerous slip was stopped by Gabriel, who was shown a yellow card. He slipped just outside the box.

In the 70th minute, Arsenal fans were horrified. Goalkeeper Ramsdale was left on the pitch and had to be treated. After losing Xhaka, the Gunners would certainly not have wanted another injury to a key player. Fortunately, after a brief treatment, he was able to continue.

Arsenal’s narrow lead was not enough. In the 76th minute, Martinelli made a great tackle at the corner flag, after whose pass Zinchenko found himself on the edge of the box. He sent the ball in front of the net where, after several bounces, it reached Ødegaard, who scored his second goal of the game to make it 2-0.

Five minutes before the end of the match, Wolves showed up. Podence attempted a scissors kick, but his shot just missed the post. It wasn’t a great trick, but it would have counted. However, he was unlucky and Arsenal remained in a two-goal lead.

Moments later, Podence had another chance. His teammates found him in the whitewash where he made a move for a better position and aimed for the top right corner, but Aaron Ramsdale made a great save.

Wolves managed to trouble the table leaders at home, but in the end Arsenal won 2-0. They return to London leading the Premier League by five points over Manchester City and will certainly not lose that position until Christmas. There will now be no play for over a month due to the World Cup in Qatar.
