Real Madrid responded to their rival Barcelona’s win with a home defeat to struggling Valencia. Marco Asensio scored the first goal. But the win itself was accompanied by unpleasant events.
The White Ballet entered the match with Valencia very actively. Spanish midfielder Marco Asensio had two chances in the first half, but failed to score.
Real Madrid scored the first goal with just one minute left in the first half. After a corner kick, defender Antonio Rüdiger stepped up, but the goal was called back due to an alleged foul. However, this was not the only unpleasant incident that befell Real’s players.
In the 36th minute of the match, stopper Éder Miliato had to be substituted due to injury, which caused more wrinkles on the foreheads of Real Madrid fans, as the latter has been struggling with a large number of injuries for some time now.
A wonderful goal by Marco Asensio
The White Ballet went in front seven minutes into the second half when Marco Asensio scored with a wonderful shot.
The second goal didn’t take long to come. It was scored by Brazilian Vinícius, who later fell victim to a foul by his compatriot Paulista. The latter saw a well-deserved red card for his frustration.
The foul also agitated another Brazilian, Militao, who stood up for his teammate and gave the Valencia defender a proper scolding as he left the field.
Real Madrid fans couldn’t enjoy their favourite club’s second goal either, as a limping Karim Benzema was taken off the pitch shortly afterwards.
The second team in the table had no problem to keep the lead against the weakened opponent until the end of the match and pulled Barcelona’s lead back to five points.
The Real Madrid players are slowly preparing for the Club World Cup, where they will play their first match on February 8. Before that, they have one more game in domestic competition when they travel to Mallorca.
