Senegal shocked the Brazilian national team in a friendly. The game was dominated by the African team’s biggest attacking star Sadio Mané. He scored two goals to give his team a 4:2 victory, and his first goal into the net of goalkeeper Ederson was really worth it.

Senegal surprised Brazil in a friendly

Qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations is well underway and Senegal is now at the top of Group L. A six-point lead in first place guarantees the team a sure qualification for the final tournament, which will be held in January 2024 in Ivory Coast.

The last winner of the tournament faltered only in Saturday’s match on Benin’s soil, where it picked up just a point for a 1-1 draw. With the last qualifying match not taking place until September, Senegal’s national team has invited a star-calibre opponent for a friendly.

Last night, Senegal played Brazil in Lisbon and it was certainly something to watch. Six goals were scored in a balanced match, but the victory was surprisingly enjoyed by the slight outsider from Africa.

La Seleçao did take the lead in the 11th minute when Paquetá ran onto a fluffy centre from Vinícius Jr. Strasbourg striker Habib Diallo provided the equalizer before the end of the half, firing a hard volley through everything in its path.

Sadio Mané, the team’s biggest star, scored two goals

However, the Canaries remained in the dressing room at half-time as Senegal’s selection took just ten minutes to take a two-goal lead. Star stopper Marquinhos first offered the Senegalese the lead with an own goal.

Then, three minutes later, star Sadio Mané sent his team on a tear. He made the most of a return pass from Diallo and swept a beautiful shot into the corner of Ederson’s net.

Marquinhos made up for his hesitation with a reducing goal, but at the very end of the match, Mané again decided Senegal’ s victory, converting a penalty kick.

Mané moved to Bayern Munich before the season to replace the departure of their biggest attacking star Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona. Although he scored important goals, especially in the early part of the season, a long injury at the turn of the year seems to have been crucial.

The Senegalese striker was unable to get into match fitness until the end of the season, which resulted in an altercation with teammate Sané, after which Mané was given a penalty by the club. But it’s a different story for the national team.

He has scored the same number of goals in five matches in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and is second in the qualification scorers’ table. Topping the chart is the rising star of the Nigerian selection, Victor Osimhen, who has scored a respectable seven goals.
