Pep Guardiola is doing a phenomenal job in England. He’s won everything he can. Except for one trophy. The Champions League. He’s been to the final once before, but the first time Manchester City were unsuccessful.
The Citizens had a second go on Saturday night. Plus, they were seen as a huge favourite. Inter Milan may have a decent team, but on paper they were no match for the English champion in terms of budget and quality.
However, when the match started, the Italian side looked united, aggressive and certainly didn’t look resigned. Inter wanted to prove that they could take on the favourites.
However, as expected, Manchester City kept the ball on their feet most of the time and we didn’t see many chances in the first half. Moreover, Guardiola had to deal with the inconvenience of Kevin De Bruyne getting injured and having to make a substitution.
It was quite a long wait to open the scoring. However, in the 68th minute, we got it. Inter’s defence was shaken up by one key pass, which was enough to send the ball into the middle of the sixteen, where Rodri ran in.
The twenty-six year old Spaniard didn’t waste the big chance and converted reliably. It was his fourth competitive goal this season. His second in the Champions League. He may well have scored the biggest goal of his career.
Inter Milan also had an interesting opportunity but failed to convert it. Yet he still has a few minutes to turn things around.
