Bayern have not yet broken Harry Kane’s curse
He came to Munich to win titles, but the curse has transferred to the Bavarian big club. Bayern failed to beat Leipzig in their first game of the season and the biggest Bundesliga transfer of the summer missed his first chance at the German Super Cup.
All the more so as the eyes of German fans turned to the first round of the new Bundesliga season. Last year’s was won by Bayern Munich after a crazy finish, taking advantage of Borussia Dortmund’s home loss in the last round of the season.
Even so, Bayern officials were not happy with the season’s progress and focused on strengthening their attacking line after Sadio Mané’s downright disappointing performance. The Senegalese striker went to Saudi Arabia and the Munich club was looking for a replacement.
All bets were on Harry Kane, who eventually moved to Germany after lengthy negotiations and much debate in the British Isles. And the 30-year-old cannonballer turned up after staying for a few minutes during his first Bundesliga appearance.
Kane repays the club’s trust in the very first round of the Bundesliga
In the first round, Bayern visited Bremen’s ground and Thomas Tuchel’s team were determined to make a winning start to their title defence. It was the fourth minute of the game and Harry Kane’s star shone through.
Kane had a beautiful collision with Sane on the halfway line and the latter made no mistake after a fluffy centre behind the home defence in the face of the goalkeeper. But that wasn’t all from the Albion captain.
Fifteen minutes from the end of regulation time, he received a pass from Canadian Davies and shot on the edge of the box, giving the goalkeeper no chance. In his first Bundesliga match, he scored a great 1+1.
At the very end of the match in Bremen, Sané added his second goal and French youngster Mathys Tel sealed Bayern’s 0:4 win.
