Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko was the victim of mistaken identity after he was stopped by police in Italy with a gun in his hand.
The incident reportedly took place on July 3 in the Porta Garibaldi area of Milan. Police set up a roadblock after a shootout between two gangs. The aforementioned Bakayoko was stopped and searched by police at a checkpoint.
The French midfielder complied with the police intervention, although he remained confused when two police officers pointed guns at him.
Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri shared the video on Twitter
“One of the policemen tells a colleague who is searching him that he is not a suspect, but a Milan player, and the policeman says: “WHO?!!!”
In the video, the officer handcuffs Bakayoko and pushes him against the side of the police car at gunpoint. The officer also appears to empty Bakayoko’s pockets and place their contents on the roof of the police car, whereupon two other officers, who have their guns drawn, point towards his car, where there was apparently another passenger.
A statement was also provided by the Milan police headquarters, which said.
Twenty-seven-year-old Bakayoko arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2017 for £40million from Monaco. In his first season at Stamford Bridge, he started 43 games and helped Chelsea to the FA Cup. He spent last season in Milan, Italy, where he made 18 starts.
