The last round of the Italian Serie A promised a lot of drama. AC Milan and Inter were competing for the title from afar. The Rossoneri needed not to lose at Sassuolo, the Nerazzurri had to hope for a loss of their rival and win at home against Sampdoria.
AC Milan last won the title in 2011. It did well last season too, holding the top spot for a long time, but then came a series of inconsistent performances and great form from Inter, which meant the Nerazzurri became Italian champions.
Naturally, the Rossoneri went to Sassuolo to support a large number of fans. They even overwhelmingly outnumbered the home team’s supporters in the stadium. At the Mapei Stadium, they created a home environment.
Sassuolo’s stadium has a capacity of around 22,000 seats. AC fans turned up at the stadium at a whopping 18,000. In short, an outstanding feat by supporters who have been longing for success.
Moreover, AC Milan took the lead in the 17th minute after Olivier Giroud’s goal, which of course meant massive celebrations. He then added another goal and in the 37th minute it was 3-0. So the title was virtually decided.
The legendary Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was a key player the last time AC Milan won the title, started the match on the bench. Now he is also a key figure for the club, both on and off the pitch.
