The Naples vs Frankfurt game had a very unpleasant prelude. The announced German fans arrived in Italy in the traditional huge numbers, only to be followed by a lynching of the city.

The first match in Frankfurt ended with Napoli winning 2:0. The German fans wanted to go and support their team to turn things around in Italy.

But after last year’s experience at Barcelona and also the riots before the first game, the Italian ministry banned the sale of additional tickets to visiting fans. The club management gave up all tickets in protest.

But the Frankurt fans arrived in Naples without tickets and things started to happen. Rowdies started setting fire to cars and trashing restaurants and bars.

The riot squad was deployed, but the Frankfurt fans stood up to them. In addition, they teamed up with hooligans from rival club Atalanta Bergamo and attacked the police. Thus, a battle between the two sides took place in the streets of Naples.

There really is no boredom with Frankfurt fans on the road. Last year in the Europa League they flooded Barcelona, buying up home season tickets and 30,000 fans in white arrived at the Camp Nou.

Before the final in Seville at the Ramón Sanchéz Pizjuán, they fought with Rangers fans and also trashed restaurants and bars.

Ahead of the Champions League eight-final rematch, Frankfurt fans arrived at Naples Central Station on Tuesday evening, from where they were taken in buses under police escort to their hotel. En route, the buses were attacked by Napoli fans who threw flares and other objects at the moving bus.
