VIDEO: Hot candidate for goal of the year! Sporting Lisbon midfielder flashes this luxurious rabona

Kicking the ball with the “rabonou”, or the other foot behind the heel, is a rather difficult kick that few players dare to do in a match. Even fewer footballers then have the courage to take the kick. But when they do, like Sporting’s Nuno Santos, it’s a joy to behold.

Kicking the ball with the “rabonou”, or the other foot behind the heel, is a rather difficult kick that few players dare to do in a match. Even fewer footballers then have the courage to take the kick. But when they do, like Sporting’s Nuno Santos, it’s a joy to behold.

The Puskás Award is given to the player who scores the most beautiful goal in a given period. This trophy has been awarded to Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Olivier Giroud or even Miroslav Stoch of Slovakia.

In 2021, Erik Lamela won this award for his goal with Rabona. His penalty came in the London derby against Arsenal.

It is Lamela who is referred to as the king of the rabona kick. He has already celebrated one beautiful goal in the Premier League this way, he has attempted a few more, and sometimes he even tries to centre like this.

But now he has a lot of competition. In the 24th round of the Portuguese league, Sporting Lisbon midfielder Nuno Santos scored with a rabona.

The green and white team welcomed Boavista at home and Sporting needed a win to stay within striking distance of the top three positions guaranteeing the Champions League.

So, in the 17th minute, Marcus Edwards started on the right side, his pass was easily crossed underneath by the Chermiti striker in the fall and reached Santos.

the 28-year-old Portuguese had the ball ready for his right foot, but decided on an unexpected solution, pulled out a rabona and opened the scoring in fantastic fashion.

Sporting then added two more goals to win comfortably 3-0. It was the seventh goal of the season for Nuno Santos, equalling his goal scoring record from the 2020/21 season.
