VIDEO: He doesn’t want to score? Real Madrid striker Joselu refused to tap the ball into an empty net
You don’t just see that. Every striker should be a bit selfish and hungry for goals. That’s how Real Madrid striker Joselu overwhelmingly behaves. But in the game against Cadiz he showed an incomprehensible short circuit.
You don’t just see that. Every striker should be a bit selfish and hungry for goals. That’s what Real Madrid striker Joselu is overwhelmingly like. But in the game against Cadiz he showed an incomprehensible short circuit.
In the last two seasons, Joselu has scored 30 goals in La Liga. Fourteen for Alaves, 16 for Espanyol. However, he didn’t prevent the Catalan club’s relegation, so the 33-year-old marksman was brought in by Real Madrid, where he had already been at the start of his career.
Joselu was originally supposed to act as a capable replacement for Benzema, only the Frenchman left and Real didn’t bring in another striker. When everyone is healthy, the duo of Vinícius – Rodrygo is regularly used in attack, but Joselu also gets plenty of chances.
And not only because of injuries to Vinícius, but also within the rotation due to his good performances. In 14 games, he scored five times, added two assists, and two goals were game-winners. He also scored twice in a Spanish national team jersey.
When Vinícius was injured, he was supposed to start the match against Cadiz in attack alongside Brahim Díaz, but he was ruled out by stomach problems just before the match and Rodrygo came on from the first minute. And in the end, it turned out to be an excellent move for Real Madrid.
The Brazilian youngster scored a beautiful goal in the 14th minute, added a second in the second half and also assisted Bellingham for the third goal.
But at 1:0 in the second half, there was an incomprehensible moment. Real desperately needed to score a second goal and had the perfect opportunity to do so. Rodrygo and Joselu were all alone in front of the goalkeeper, the Brazilian passed the ball to his teammate, but instead of tapping it into the empty net, he let the ball go into the net.
Offside?
Apparently he thought he was offside, but even so his actions were meaningless as the ball was heading out of the goal. He should have tapped it into the net and then waited to see if it was offside. His not being involved in the game would have made sense if Rodryg’s pass was heading for goal and Joselu could have ruined a valid goal.
This way he wouldn’t have ruined anything by his involvement and since he wasn’t offside according to the replay, he would have scored a valid goal.
