VIDEO: Haaland tricked the goalkeeper and converted a penalty to steer Citizens to victory over Brighton

Manchester City won their home game against Brighton, 3-1, and now trail leaders Arsenal by just a point. Erling Haaland scored twice, Kevin de Bruyne and Leandro Trossard scored one goal each.
Brighton started surprisingly actively. Danny Welbeck had the first shot, but failed to beat the onrushing Ederson from 40 yards. The Citizens from the south coast of England had good access to the ball, but the home team didn’t get any chances.
Manchester, however, only needed one. Ederson found Erling Haaland with a kick, he rounded the goalkeeper and sent the ball into the empty net.
And the home side’s goal helped. In the 32nd minute, Kevin de Bruyne got on the end of a neat one-touch combination, but stopper Lewis Dunk had to intervene.
In the 38th minute, Dunk fouled in the whitewash and although the head referee didn’t see it live, he pointed to the penalty spot after watching the replay. Haaland took the ball and converted with a hard shot.
Riyad Mahrez could have added the insurance after the change of sides, but Robert Sanchez made the save. On the other side, Belgium’s Leandro Trossard scored from the edge of the box with a cross to the near post.
Brighton dominated, holding the ball for 85 per cent between the 50th and 55th minutes. However, it wasn’t until the 68th minute that they got a shot on target when Alexis Mac Allister headed over. The Citizens’ crisis was only broken in the 75th minute by de Bruyne, whose hilarious long-range shot ended up in the left-hand post.
The Citizens held on to win the game 3-1 and are now only a point behind leaders Arsenal. The Gunners, however, have Sunday’s game in Southampton to win.
