VIDEO: Haaland showed that he can not only score goals, but also defend his teammates hard. The Giants’ clash ended in a draw this time
Erling Haaland is still 5 goals short of Mohamed Salah’s record from the 2017/18 season. However, against Newcastle, instead of celebrating the goal, he proved to be more of a protector of his teammates when he took a hard tackle on Newcastle midfielder Dan Burn, which saw him receive a yellow card.
Haaland had a meteoric rise at Manchester City, managing to score 25 goals in his opening 19 league games. However, he hasn’t been able to maintain that cadence in the second half. In fact, he has only managed to score twice in the last 6 games.
Of course, this has to be taken with a grain of salt when a large number of strikers in the Premier League would be happy for those 2 goals in 6 games, only Haaland is not the majority, Haaland is just one.
He showed a somewhat opposite face in Saturday’s game against Newcastle, for which he received his 4th league yellow card in the 74th minute.
At that point Manchester City were already leading 2-0 and had the game completely in their hands. However, after a scuffle broke out, the Norwegian striker decided to intervene, completing a 37 metre sprint, after which he tackled Burn, the two of them pushed each other for a while.
But it was a really even fight, at least in terms of height. Haaland is 194 centimetres, while Burn is 198.
However, this confrontation of muscles was quickly extinguished by his teammates and the referee eventually awarded both players yellow cards for this spectacle. Just like for the current top scorer of the Premier League, it was the 4th league yellow card for the Newcastle midfielder this season.
Manchester City already have 58 points on their account after Saturday’s win, considering that Arsenal also won, the gap between the two teams is still 5 points.
Newcastle, on the other hand, continue to hold on to 5th place, with 4. Tottenham, who lost to Wovles on Saturday, are 4 points behind. However, Eddie Howe’s charges have two games to play.
In the next round, Manchester City head to London to face Crystal Palace, while Newcastle welcome Wolves.
