Video: Haaland showed his huge potential in the first round. The connection with De Bruyne gives me chills
Erling Haaland has begun his journey to conquer the Premier League. And in style. At West Ham, a ground from which points don’t come much, he showed off with two goals and hinted at his huge potential. How many goals can he score this season?
Erling Haaland has begun his journey to conquer the Premier League. And in style. On a West Ham pitch where points are not much to come from, he showed off with two goals and hinted at his huge potential. How many goals can he score this season?
When you watch the Norwegian goalscorer, you almost feel sorry for the defenders who can’t cope with him. Haaland lacks almost nothing. He is very strong, almost two metres tall, yet extremely fast, he is also technically excellent and has an excellent choice of space. He has hardly a weakness.
Yet before the competition began, there were doubts about how he would fare in England. After all, a couple of strikers had already burnt out after moving from the Bundesliga to the Premier League, Timo Werner had just returned to Leipzig from Chelsea, more was also expected from Kai Havertz, Haaland had an example in his former teammate.
Jadon Sancho, despite being English, did not do well at all at the start and was heavily criticised. The Bundesliga is much more open, it is a paradise for strikers. The Premier League is played in a slightly different style.
But Haaland showed in the first game that he is special. In the 35th minute, he swung his long legs and received a pass into the box from Gündogan, poked the ball past goalkeeper Areola, who had to foul him, penalty.
Captain Kevin De Bruyne and reliable enforcer Ilkay Gündogan gave him a welcome penalty kick and Haaland did not refuse his teammates’ offer. He made a quick run and gave Areola no chance.
But that wasn’t all. The Citizens have one of the best central midfielders of the moment, the master of assists, Kevin De Bruyne. And the combination of De Bruyne and Haaland gives me chills… all the defenders who will defend this duo.
When you combine the Belgian’s millimetre passes and Nora’s uncatchable runs behind the defence, it’s a lethal combo. And they showed it in the first round.
The action looked innocent at first. De Bruyne was still taking a pass in his own half when he saw Haaland running in behind the Hammers defence. He waited for the right moment and sketched a millimetre-accurate cross into the box, Haaland didn’t even have to work the ball and straight from one touch he headed it into the net with his left foot.
It was Haaland’s connection with an excellent Manchester City team that spelled big things. I wonder how many goals the Norwegian hitman can score in the Premier League – 20? 25? Or even over 30? For Haaland, it seems, nothing is impossible.
