VIDEO: Haaland firing again, striking twice in the first 20 minutes against Luton

After his injury at the turn of the year, Erling Haaland is not in ideal form, which is also true for the rest of the team. The Citizens have been dragged down by Phil Foden on the league scene, but in the FA Cup the Norwegian striker showed he is getting back to fitness. He struck in the fourth minute.

Quite surprisingly, Erling Haaland was not missing from the Citizens starting line-up, nor was Kevin de Bruyne. Of the mainstays, only Ederson, Jeremy Doku and Rodri were given the night off. Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes got a chance to play as substitutes.

And it was Nunes who got a quick goal for the Citizens. He passed to Kevin de Bruyne on the edge of the box, who then waited for Haaland’s ideal run, timed his pass accordingly and the Norwegian had an easy job from the edge of the box. And in the 17th minute he added a second.

Fifth goal in six games for Haaland

Even the numbers speak volumes about how overblown the current criticism of Haaland is. Across all competitions, he has scored five times in the past six matches. With the Luton game still in progress and the other three goals secured Manchester league wins over Everton and Bournemouth.

In particular, the missed chances from that two games resonated a lot in the media. In the home February league draw with Chelsea and also because of the Copenhagen game. Although the Citizens won 3:1 in Denmark, the Norwegian was missing big chances.

Neither in ideal form

Neither team could go into the game in 100% mental comfort. Luton were not pleased with Monday’s return of four points to Everton. The Hatters are now four points adrift of salvation in the Premier League.

Manchester City have scored only three goals in their last three league games, playing Chelsea, Bournemouth and Brentford. Haaland was perhaps the least dangerous shooter in a year and a half in a Manchester blue jersey, but now all is forgotten.
