Sunday’s Austrian MotoGP Grand Prix produced a number of dramatic moments and great battles, one of which was the battle for the podium. Just a few laps from the end of the race, Fabio Quartararo performed a manoeuvre worthy of a champion!
It was lap 25 of the Austrian Grand Prix when French rider Quartararo (Yamaha) finally caught Jack Miller on his Ducati.
And he decided the battle for second place with a manoeuvre worthy of a true champion. Quartararo sent Miller into turn two, and it was the reigning world champion who emerged victorious from the duel. A bold and brilliant manoeuvre.
The thirteenth round of this MotoGP season offered a great battle for the podium at that very moment, with Jorge Martin (Pramac) joining in anyway.
The 24-year-old adept at transferring to a factory team took advantage of the duel between Quartararo and Miller to almost take second place.
But Quartararo subsequently held on to that and went on to retire Austrian Grand Prix leader Francesco Bagnaia in the final two laps. The latter, however, built up a 1.6-second lead thanks to the battle for the podium.
And Quartararo was unable to erase such a big loss. The Italian rider in Ducati colours took his third win in a row, with the Yamaha rider finishing second.
The last spot on the podium was taken by Australian Miller, as Martin made a big mistake in the first corner of the final lap and crashed. He didn’t cross the finish line until tenth.
