Unlike the other top 5 leagues, the German Bundesliga is not played. Leverkusen has been on a break since mid-November with two friendlies.
On Saturday they played against Venice and a week later they will face Copenhagen. The favourite’s starting line-up was missing the injured Patrik Schick, while Adam Hložek fit in.
Leverkusen sent in several mainstays, such as offensive midfielder Florian Wirtz and stopper Pierre Hincapie. Wirtz sent Bayer into the lead in the 37th minute and six minutes later it was Hložek’s turn.
First, he worked a pass with his shoulder, collided with Odilon Kossounou, rounded the opposition and fed the ball perfectly to Amine Adli.
Amiri’s shot gave Leverkusen composure and although they scored in the second half from Andrija Novakovic’s kick, they eventually won the game 2-1.
In a sharp match, Hložek was in solid form at the end of the autumn and carved out a stronger place in the line-up. He has two goals and three assists (1+1 in the Bundesliga, 0+1 in the Champions League and 1+0 in the Cup.
Bayer have a trip through the Europa League in the spring, but they must also focus on the league, where they are just five points above relegation and four above the barrage. They will enter the second part of the season on January 22 at Mönchengladbach.
