Porto managed to win their third game in a row, beating Bruges by four goals. After that, only his players were waiting to see how the Atlético Madrid match with Bayer Leverkusen would turn out, the result of which made all the members of the Portuguese club furious and put wrinkles on the pilot’s forehead.

Porto didn’t start the current Champions League season well, losing to both Atlético Madrid and Brugge. So there was not a good atmosphere in the cabin before the double match with Leverkusen.

However, the Portuguese side managed to beat their German opponents 2: 0 and 3: 0 and were back in the game. Porto confirmed their improving form on Wednesday, when they blew away the Belgians 4:0, the same result they lost in the first match.

Since Porto played two hours earlier, they had to wait for the result of Atlético Madrid’s match against Leverkusen. However, from the very beginning they had a great reason to rejoice when Moussa Diaby opened the scoring in the 9th minute after a pass from Adam Hložek. However, Yannick Carrasco equalised in the 22nd minute, whereupon Callum Hudson-Odoi put Leverkusen back in front.

Shortly after the break, however, Rodrigo de Paul equalised at 2:2, a score that stood until the end of the match. It didn’t have to be that way, however, as Carrasco, who had been playing brilliantly up to that point, missed a penalty in injury time, setting off wild celebrations from the Porto players, who were on the plane on their way home.

Like Bruges, Porto are already assured of promotion and will face Atlético in their next match in a long-distance battle for top spot in the group. However, the Spanish side will still be fighting as well, as they hold third place for the time being, but only by a point, just like the Belgians.

Even though the qualification for the spring play-offs is now decided, all teams still have motivation!

We can look forward to the denouement of this situation on 1 November, when Porto will welcome Atlético at home. Before that, however, they will play Santa Clara in the Portuguese league. Madrid will then travel to Cadiz.
