The big clubs regularly organise matches with a charity angle, in which club legends reappear. On Saturday, the icons of two British giants, namely Liverpool and Celtic, clashed in this way.
The English side came out with a truly great line-up, with players such as Martin Škrtel, Sami Hyypia, Steve McManaman, Jerzy Dudek, Djibril Cisse, Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard.
It was Gerrard’s start that was spicy. After all, this is a man who until recently coached Rangers FC, Celtic’s biggest rival. He even won the Scottish title. At the helm of Rangers, he has become even more etched in the memory of Czech fans.
Even those who previously liked Gerrard turned their backs on him in our country after Rangers’ matches with Slavia Prague, when the Scottish club’s players played hard and then accused Ondrej Kudelka of racism.
Rangers are not the most popular team in our country and the same goes for Gerrard as a personality. However, he still has footballing qualities and he showed that in the charity match when he managed to score from the penalty spot.
After his goal, however, Gerrard got the crowd somewhat excited as he went to celebrate right in front of the cauldron of Scottish fans. They started throwing cups at him. The English legend enjoyed the moment, in addition to inciting the Reds fans to drown out the boos of the Scots.
All the people who have something to do with Rangers were very happy about Gerrard’s behaviour on social media.
