Germany’s second highest competition brought the showpiece of the round on Friday evening, when the two best teams in the competition so far and arch rivals faced off for the top of the table. First St. Pauli welcomed Hamburg SV to their stadium in a city derby, trailing their opponents by three points.
A packed stadium in the form of 30,000 chanting spectators saw a beautiful match in which four goals fell through the net. The St. Pauli players took a two-goal lead in the first half and the home fans were duly pleased.
The packed stadium saw a curious moment that went viral on social media
The second goal in particular will go down in history as one of the craziest. The constructive play from the 27th minute of the first half did not pay off for the visiting team at all, and the home side’s two-goal lead fell straight out of the sky.
Portuguese defender Guilherme Ramos gave the ball back to his compatriot Daniel Heuer Fernandes in his own penalty area. The latter, however, did not count on the return pass, the ball bounced on the turf and the Portuguese goalkeeper sent it uncompromisingly into his own net.
The Portuguese duo will certainly not put the situation behind them. The goal immediately went viral on social media and even the home fans were entertained, as they could not imagine a better start to an important match. The visiting team, however, did not lay down its arms, but rather was strengthened by the curious moment.
In the second half the visitors shocked the whole stadium. They scored two goals in just two minutes and since the score did not change by the end of the match, the two teams parted amicably.
