It’s been a long time since Eden Hazard last appeared on the pitch. He came on as a substitute in Sunday’s game against Valladolid. His joy is truly priceless.
The Belgian footballer was on the pitch for the first time since January this year, when he started in the starting line-up in the Spanish Cup.
However, his performance against a team from a lower league was terrible and Carlo Ancelotti pulled him off the pitch after just an hour of play. Since then, Hazard hasn’t been given a chance for a single minute.
He has dropped to last place in the Italian coach’s hierarchy of attacking options. Even Mariano Diaz and youngster Álvaro Rodriguez have been given more chances.
In Sunday’s game against Valladolid, who are fighting to stay in the league, Real Madrid secured a comfortable lead thanks to Karim Benzema and it was time to rotate the line-up.
Jesús Vallejo and, above all, Eden Hazard have also been included. The latter, after months of sitting on the bench, could not believe his eyes and ears when he heard that he was going to play.
The Belgian footballer didn’t leave a bad impression at all after a long break. He created several chances and assisted the last goal of the Royal Club.
He missed one huge chance himself. However, despite this lighter moment, we can’t expect Carlo Ancelotti to start relying on him more in the more important games.
Perhaps a more regular rotation in the domestic league comes into consideration, as that is probably already decided and if Real Madrid progress further in the Champions League, all efforts will be directed in that direction.
