Czech national team defender Ondřej Kúdela left Slavia in the summer and went on a football adventure to Indonesia. He has now scored his first goal for Persija Jakarta. And he saved it for the best moment.
Thirty-five-year-old Kúdela is a cornerstone of the Indonesian Jakarta line-up. He was reunited with ex-Slavs Michael Krmencik and Yusuf Hilal in the summer.
But he has failed to score so far. Until now. His Jakarta, without European mainstays, came in after losing their last match against Persibe (0::1).
The match against Bali United started ideally for Jakarta, leading from the 10th minute. But then the opponent turned the game around and the 1: 2 scoreline lasted until the end of regulation time.
The referee set a large number of minutes and the Jakarta players did not lay down their arms yet. Standard situations decided the game. First, a Persija player scored from a direct kick in the 96th minute.
Then in the 11th minute of the set-up came the big moment for the Czech stopper. After a rebound, the ball came to him from a corner kick and the experienced Kúdela headed the ball into the net.
It was a big turnaround for Jakarta to 3:2 and they are now only two points behind the table leaders. The Indonesian competition has been marred by several scandals since the start of the season.
Firstly, 174 people died in violence at one of the league’s stadiums and the subsequent crush. After an extended break, the league has been marred by the behaviour of players Michiels and Krmenchik, with spitballs and fists being thrown.
The Czech striker was injured in the incident but also received a six-game suspension, which he is serving.
