Arsenal managed to win Sunday’s London derby at West Ham, beating David Moyes’ charges 6-0. William Saliba started the cannonade after 30 minutes, the Gunners then added three more goals before half-time. After the change of sides, it was all over.
Gabriel Magalhaes, the Gunners’ most dangerous corner kick man, had the first chance of the game, but his header only hit the centre of the net. Arsenal pressed, and in the 11th minute Bukayo Saka tested the defensive line, but a block brought the ball down for a corner.
At the other end, Mohammed Kudus was the first to go wrong, firing only into the middle of the goal. But it was Arsenal who threatened, with Saka then just slotting past Alphonse Areola. Leandro Trossard just missed a minute later.
The Belgian striker fired again in the 24th minute, this time Areola had to pull off a superb save to hold the otherwise poorly playing Hammers. In the 33rd minute, he was fishing the ball out of the net, with a header from stopper William Saliba following a corner kick.
Four minutes later Martin Odegaard shot narrowly wide, but in the 39th minute Areola fouled in the whitewash and the Gunners went two goals up from a penalty thanks to Saka.
Arsenal continued to play well, with a header from second-choice stopper Gabriel in the 44th minute. And it was still not all, Trossard added a fourth in stoppage time.
Four goals from the 30th minute onwards made the half-time score 0:4.
After the change of sides, the Gunners continued at a similar pace and logically had free legs. The demolition continued in the 63rd minute with Saka, who gracefully broke free in the whitewash and sent goalkeeper Areola the other way.
And Declan Rice completed the canard when he drilled the ball superbly from distance.
Subsequently, both coaches rotated their line-ups considerably, with players from the wider squad taking to the field. Both sides missed one decent chance and the Gunners eventually beat their city rivals 6-0. They are two points behind first place, with the Hammers eighth.
