Manchester City won the opening game of Saturday’s Premier League schedule, beating Leicester 1: 0. Kevin de Bruyne scored from a direct kick to give the favourite three points and move to the top of the table.
The visitors started actively, Ilkay Gundogan had the first shooting opportunity, but Danny Ward made a good save. In the 13th minute, Rodri also tried a header, but the Welsh international had no problems with his attempt.
Citizens pressure increased, then Bernardo Silva shot from a volley, but Ward again intervened, this time with his feet.
At the other end, Harvey Barnes tried a corner, but Ederson headed it out for a corner. Then the visitors went on the attack again, but a hard shot ended up on the goalkeeper.
In the final third of the half, the action on the pitch evened out and Leicester went into the box with a goalless draw. Just after the change of sides, Rodri shot dangerously, but just missed the back post.
In the 49th minute, the visitors celebrated. From a direct kick, Kevin de Bruyne swept the left post in a spectacular fashion.
Youri Tielemans had a quick equaliser, but Ederson headed his shot onto the crossbar.
There was a sense of calm about Manchester, the home side were trying to do something with the game, but they weren’t very active in the attacking half.
It wasn’t until the 85th minute that Patson Daka headed, only to find the gloves of Ederson. The Citizens finished the game with experience and after the 1: 0 win they go to the top of the table at least for the day. Arsenal are a point down with a game to spare.
