VIDEO: Coufal injured, Soucek scoring chances and West Ham lose for the third time

West Ham are without a point after losing 0:2 to Brighton in the third round of the Premier League. In addition, Vladimir Coufal was injured during the game and Tomas Soucek missed two great chances.

The beginning of the match offered both sides hints, but they did not lead to any dangerous end. In the 13th minute Jarrod Bowen pulled off a dangerous break, but a pass to Michail Antonio in a better position was stopped by the visiting defence.

Brighton were angry too, in the 20th minute Danny Welbeck was tripped in the whitewash and a penalty was whistled. VAR subsequently verified that the contact had occurred inside the penalty area, Alexis Mac Allister took the ball and converted the penalty in a sovereign manner.

Eight minutes later, defender Joel Veltman tried from distance, but narrowly missed the West Ham goal. That was the last chance of a rather uninspiring first half and the score was 0-1 to the visitors from the south coast.

After the change of sides, the home side were active, but they were kept at bay by the visitors’ defence. In the 54th minute they blocked an attempt by Tomáš Souček. Four minutes later, Pablo Fornals’ shot went through but was caught by Robert Sanchez.

The visitors, on the other hand, took their first chance to increase their lead. A clever pass from Pascal Gross sent Leandro Trossard on a breakaway, who was already able to deal with the finish.

In the 73rd minute, Vladimir Coufal was left lying on the ground after one of the fights and was taken off the field by doctors after receiving treatment. He had to be substituted because of a problem with his cervical spine. In the 83rd minute, his compatriot Souček was visible, but his header was saved by the goalkeeper.

The Czech midfielder came even closer to scoring from the ensuing corner, this time Sanchez knocked the ball straight off the line.

In the end, West Ham didn’t get any more pressure and lost 0:2.
