Twente are fighting for a Europa Conference group and don’t have an easy draw. Italian side Fiorentina are in its way. In their first match, they confirmed their role as favourites. Václav Černý scored against them.

It’s been a while since Václav Černý appeared in a European Cup. And it’s been a while since he scored a goal. However, on Thursday, he got both the minutes and the goal he wanted.

His Twente were playing in the last qualifying round of the Europa Conference League at the ground of Italian Fiorentina. The latter made it to Europe after five years. However, as expected, the team from Tuscany was the favourite and it showed in the match.

Fiorentina outplayed the Dutch team. But the result could have been better. In the end, it only won 2:1. The only Twente goal was scored in the 64th minute by Václav Černý, who came on after the first half.

It was Cerny’s first goal in Europe since November 2015. Back then, he was still a player of Ajax Amsterdam. Now he is still only 24 years old. However, given the talent that he has been brimming with, he is not doing well right now.

When he seriously injured his knee in the 2020/21 season, he was out of action for a long time. And he hasn’t been at his best yet. At Twente, he’s more of a joker. He wasn’t even on the pitch much last season.

But Michal Sadilek is in a different position at Twente. The Moravian native played the whole game against Fiorentina. It only confirmed that he has a very important role in the club.
