Edinson Cavani is not yet part of the old guard. In the last edition of the Premier League at Manchester United, he was just a bit of a bust, scoring a single goal, but in Spain he has come alive again.
When Cavani was looking for a new deal in the summer, there was speculation about several options. As well as a return to Ligue 1, there was also talk of a move to MLS or his native Uruguay.
but the 35-year-old hitman didn’t want to end his European career just yet. So when Gennaro Gattuso of Valencia threw him a lasso, Cavani didn’t hesitate twice. And he did the right thing.
He was still injured for the first three games, but got into the game for the first time in mid-September against Celta Vigo and contributed to a 3-0 win. Then, against Espanyol, he missed a penalty, but at least he scored a goal in a 2-2 draw.
After that, however, it was his turn. El Matador scored twice against Elche and then scored in the draw against Sevilla. Last time he scored from a penalty against Mallorca, his fourth goal in the last three games.
The experienced Uruguayan has now scored all five of Valencia’s goals in the last three games. Gattuso must be very pleased with this move.
