Formula 1 has its tenth race of the season on the schedule today, Sunday 3 July – the British Grand Prix. However, red flags were waved on the opening lap due to a mass crash involving several drivers!

Red flags, race stopped – the opening lap of the British Grand Prix already brought a heavy and mass crash involving several drivers.

George Russell, Kuan-yu Zhou and Pierre Gasly collided at the first corner. However, it was the Chinese Alfa Romeo driver who suffered the most from the accident, as he found himself upside down after making contact with Russell’s Mercedes.

His car skidded at high speed up to the tyre barrier, where his car subsequently “tripped”, jumped the barrier and ended up in the mesh. A horrific crash that forced an ambulance to intervene.

In the video below you can see the very scary accident for yourself. Of course, red flags were waved almost immediately at the circuit and the race was suspended by the British Grand Prix directorate.

In any case, the Chinese driver was successfully extricated from his car and according to the latest information should not have any serious injuries.

Alexander Albon has also been taken to the medical centre. He collided with Esteban Ocon’s Alpino at the first corner. AlphaTauri rider Júki Cunoda was also involved in this crash.

Despite the extensive damage, Albon, Chou and Russell will not continue in the British Grand Prix. The question remains whether the Alpina and AlphaTauri teams will be able to repair the cars of Cunoda and Ocon before the track marshals remove the Chinese driver’s car.

The race would then be restarted from fixed positions and according to the order from Saturday’s qualifying.
