Manchester City welcomed Brentford to their home ground, looking for a clear three points and a chance to move into first place in the Premier League ahead of Arsenal at least for the evening. However, the visitors did not come to lose and, perhaps surprisingly, managed to torment Manchester City.

Brentford entered the game as clear outsiders, but it was their players who came up with the first big chance. As early as the third minute, Onyeka crossed into the whitewash as no one was chasing him. However, he was unsuccessful against the goalkeeper who made a run.
