The Russian Cup is played in groups, with a pair of teams Zenit St. Petersburg and Spartak Moscow in one of them. Zenit players needed three points like salt, while Spartak shared the first place with Krylya Sovetov.
While interesting matches are played at the World Cup in Qatar, football in Russia has a completely different atmosphere. The clash between Spartak Moscow and Zenit St. Petersburg even turned from a football match into an MMA match.
The fight between the players was sparked by an altercation between Promes and Barrios. The Colombian midfielder uttered words at Promes, this resulted in a shove from Promes. At that moment, several Zenit St. Petersburg players ran towards the Dutch player.
Despite the referee’s efforts to prevent the brawl, a trio of players tackled Promese. This triggered strong emotions among the players on the field, as well as the implementation teams and both bench players. Prado hit Promes several times with his kick, hitting one of his teammates and the referee in addition to the Dutchman.
Nicolson also took a few hits, but definitely the player who started it all ended up the worst off. Barrios was found by around 10 players and members of the Spartak Moscow management team.
The Colombian midfielder found himself in a circle between the “enemies” who showered him with dozens of kicks, fists and elbows. In addition to the players, members of the management team were also involved in the scuffle, some of them trying to calm the situation, while others fought with their team.
Footage from other cameras showed how former Barcelona player Malcom punched Promes and tried to fight him. But members of the implementation teams stopped them.
The referee handed out three red cards to each side and the match ended after a penalty shootout. Zenit managed to win the penalty shootout 4-2 at home and took 2 points. Spartak had to settle for just one point.
